YSU SBDC wins Excellence and Innovation Award ? YSU News ...

The Ohio Small Business Development Center at Youngstown State University was named the winner of the U.S. Small Business Administration?s 2012 Small Business Development Center Excellence and Innovation Award for the Cleveland District.

The Excellence and Innovation Award honors an SBDC for its excellence in providing value to small businesses and advancing program delivery and management through innovation.?Among the many characteristics examined are a Center?s record of new business creation, capital infusion, counseling success, job creation, and program and training innovation.

The Ohio SBDC at YSU is a comprehensive business assistance network designed to help existing businesses develop and retain a competitive advantage in the ever changing global economy and to help entrepreneurs realize their dreams of business ownership. In Ohio, the SBDC program is a partnership of the Ohio Department of Development and the U.S. Small Business Administration. Locally, the SBDC is hosted by YSU and the Williamson College of Business Administration and serves Ashtabula, Mahoning, and Trumbull counties.

Between 2008 and 2011, the Ohio SBDC at YSU assisted in the development of 39 new business start-ups, 219 jobs created, 230 jobs retained, and acquired more than $10 million in capital formation for the companies.

Over the years, the SBDC at YSU has been instrumental in the acquisition and development of numerous business programs, including the new International Trade Assistance Center at YSU, to assist companies with exporting.

Six counselors are available to provide professional, in-depth consulting and training to existing business ventures, including business risk management, business plan development, strategic planning, financial analysis, sources of funding, market research and analysis, and product distribution advice. There is no fee for consulting services, and all project and company information is held in the strictest of confidence.
