On Thursday, March 1st a special art exhibition will open at the KiMo Theatre Gallery that pays tribute to Edgar Allan Poe?s famous poem. In the fall of 2011, 18 local artists were commissioned to create works for an exhibit titled ?The Raven.? Each work of art contributed to the show interprets one stanza of The Raven, and will be hung in actual poetic sequence.

?When viewing the sequence of art works, one can experience the mastery of both the visual artists and of Edgar Allan Poe,? stated Augustine Romero, Art Curator of the KiMo Theatre and South Broadway Cultural Center.

The show premiered at the Main Library in the fall of 2011 as part of The Big Read, a program of the National Endowment for the Arts designed to restore reading to the center of American culture. The Big Read brings together partners across the country to encourage reading for pleasure and enlightenment. Poe?s works were the subject of last fall?s program.

A Silent Auction of the 18 works will be held on March 1st, with bidding open until 7 p.m. The bid winners will be announced at 7:15 p.m. during a free public reception for the artists that is scheduled from 6 ? 8 p.m. at the KiMo Art Gallery. Monies?raised will go to the Friends for the Public Library.

The Artists whose works are included in this exhibit are: Eason Eige, Marcellin Simard, Jude Pacheco, Jeremy Montoya, Amy J. Clisner, John Bicknell, Adrian Panaro, Regina Araujo Corritore, Henry Morales, Benjamin Roe, Derrick Montez, Justine Ortiz, Travis Black, Stacy Hawkinson, Jon Sanchez, Shawn Turung, Andres Orlowski, and Alan Paine Radebaugh.?
